Job Description

As a Bus Operator, you will be the face of Metro Tasmania, delivering safe, reliable and welcoming public transport services to customers from all walks of life.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Safely operating Metro buses in accordance with road rules, company procedures and timetables
  • Providing friendly, professional and inclusive customer service to passengers
  • Assisting customers with fares, directions and general enquiries
  • Managing passenger safety and comfort during journeys
  • Completing required pre-start checks and reporting vehicle or operational issues
  • Representing Metro Tasmania positively within the community

Desired Skills and Experience

What you’ll need:

  • A good driving history, with the capacity to learn to safely and reliably drive a heavy passenger vehicle
  • Complete a National Police Check from Tasmania Police
  • Hold (or can obtain) a working with vulnerable people (WWVP) card
  • Have held a current, full Australian Driver’s Licence for at least 2 years
  • Have full working rights in Australia
  • Pass a pre-employment physical assessment, including a Drug and Alcohol test
  • Ability to obtain a Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) licence

Don’t have a heavy vehicle licence yet? No worries... You’ll start your career at Metro with 6 weeks of paid, extensive training to get your medium rigid Metro licence. Our next intake commences on Monday 2 March 2026.
