Job Description
As a Bus Operator, you will be the face of Metro Tasmania, delivering safe, reliable and welcoming public transport services to customers from all walks of life.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Safely operating Metro buses in accordance with road rules, company procedures and timetables
Providing friendly, professional and inclusive customer service to passengers
Assisting customers with fares, directions and general enquiries
Managing passenger safety and comfort during journeys
Completing required pre-start checks and reporting vehicle or operational issues
Representing Metro Tasmania positively within the community

Desired Skills and Experience
What you’ll need:
A good driving history, with the capacity to learn to safely and reliably drive a heavy passenger vehicle
Complete a National Police Check from Tasmania Police
Hold (or can obtain) a working with vulnerable people (WWVP) card
Have held a current, full Australian Driver’s Licence for at least 2 years
Have full working rights in Australia
Pass a pre-employment physical assessment, including a Drug and Alcohol test
Ability to obtain a Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) licence
Don’t have a heavy vehicle licence yet? No worries... You’ll start your career at Metro with 6 weeks of paid, extensive training to get your medium rigid Metro licence. Our next intake commences on 23 February 2026.
